Our History
1873
The Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal (formerly Hospice Saint-Jean-De-Dieu, later Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine) opens its doors.
1982
The Foundation is established under the name Fondation Guillaume-Lahaise, in honor of a pioneering doctor who practiced from 1924 to 1958.
1993
The Foundation becomes the Fondation de l’Hôpital Louis-H. Lafontaine and launches its first fundraising activities, mainly for employees.
2005
The Foundation launches its first major fundraising campaign, led by Mr. Louis Vachon (National Bank), raising nearly nine million dollars for mental health.
2011
The hospital is renamed Institut universitaire en santé mentale de Montréal, leading to the rebranding of the Foundation.
2014
The Foundation organizes its first Cycling Challenge, paired with its Golf Open, and launches the Christmas Giving Campaign to support the most vulnerable patients during the holiday season.
2016
FIUSMM launches its second major fundraising campaign, raising close to $10 million to create Quebec’s first Research Chair in Mental Health and the Workplace. thanks to the support of Louis Vachon (National Bank), Éric Martel (Hydro Québec), and Yvon Charest (iA Financial Group).
2018
With the support of young philanthropists, the Foundation creates the Fire & Ice Benefit Cocktail, a networking event for the next generation of donors, showcasing advances in mental health.
2020
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which increased social isolation and anxiety among vulnerable patients, the Foundation launches the Mobile Grocery Initiative with the support of Sun Life Québec, delivering over 700 grocery baskets within two months. This initiative has since become a permanent program to address urgent food insecurity among patients.
2024
The Foundation receives a historic $2 million donation from the Lise and Giuseppe Racanelli Foundation, This historic contribution will kick-start the “Relevons la tête, ensemble” campaign, aimed in particular at supporting the relocation of the Crisis Center and the Resolution Mobile Team.
